Associate Professor Emma Barrett

Emma’s pioneering research aims to understand and address the impact of child and adolescent trauma across the lifespan. Utilising epidemiological, longitudinal and clinical trial methodologies spanning key populations in clinical, school and forensic settings, her research aims to i) generate new knowledge on early trauma and ii) develop innovative, scalable interventions to improve the wellbeing of the millions of Australians impacted by this pervasive public health issue.

Dr Barrett has authored over 100 publications and has obtained over $20 million in competitive grant funding. In recognition of the innovation and impact of her research, Dr Barrett has accrued a number of awards including the 2022 University of Sydney Research Accelerator (SOAR) Prize for outstanding researchers. Dr Barrett was also awarded the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to collaborate with international experts at the Medical University of South Carolina and lead the development of an integrated treatment for young people impacted by traumatic stress and substance use.
